The AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials) standards establish minimum nutrient profiles and guidelines for pet foods to be labeled as "complete and balanced", ensuring they provide essential vitamins, minerals, proteins, fats, and other nutrients required for a dog's health across different life stages. In the context of raw dog feeding, these standards play a key role by helping commercial raw food manufacturers formulate diets that avoid nutritional deficiencies or imbalances, which can occur in homemade or poorly planned raw meals lacking proper proportions of meat, bone, organs, and supplements. Meet Storm, the Siberian Husky, who serves as both a part-owner and mascot of Raw Carnivore. Storm's journey with raw feeding began when, as a puppy, we started Storm off with generic supermarket brand kibble. After months gone by we noticed his skin was always itchy, his coat was rough, his stool was always irregular and would always leave food in his bowl. After consulting the vets and given some information on whole food balanced Storm transitioned from traditional biscuits to a meticulously balanced raw diet, and the results have been remarkable.
Since embracing the raw diet, Storm boasts a shiny coat year-round, effortlessly maintains a lean and athletic physique, and loves his food. Notably, once a very picky eater during puppyhood vanished upon the switch to raw feeding, and he has consistently thrived ever since. Storm's journey serves as a testament to raw feeding in promoting optimal health and vitality for our beloved companions.
